Abstract
China currently holds a prominent position as a mass producer of string instruments, commanding a broad and steadily expanding share of the global market. However, it no longer merely exports, as it did decades ago, vast quantities of bowed string instruments of questionable quality; it now also offers functional and cost-effective products in the international market for student and amateur violins. Worthy of attention is the development of human talent for the artisanal manufacture of instruments using traditional methods on a small scale. This advancement may be understood as part of a medium-term process initiated by Dengist economic liberalisation reforms and the cultural exchange fostered through migration and return. Nonetheless, challenges remain in terms of quality control and environmental sustainability.
